How we practise
Two things shape how this clinic runs. The first is that we diagnose before we treat: tongue, pulse, palpation and a real conversation about sleep, digestion and stress, because a symptom is not yet a treatable pattern. The second is that we say what we think. If acupuncture is not the right tool for what you have, you will hear that after the first visit or two, along with where you should go instead.
That also means being straight about evidence. Acupuncture's strongest research support is in pain — back and neck pain, knee osteoarthritis, migraine prevention, postoperative pain. For cosmetic work, weight support or brain health, federal health agencies do not list those among its evidence-backed uses, and we say so on those pages rather than implying otherwise.
Where we are, and who comes to us
408 West 57th Street sits between Columbus Circle and 9th Avenue, on the Midtown and Hell's Kitchen border. Most patients walk in from an office, off the subway, or from apartments in Hell's Kitchen, Lincoln Square and the lower Upper West Side.
We see a lot of desk workers, nurses and finance staff who stand or sit for twelve hours, postpartum parents, runners, and patients coordinating cycle-timed care with fertility clinics roughly 25 minutes away.
What happens on your first visit here?
The first appointment runs 75 minutes and is mostly diagnosis. Four steps, in this order, and you can stop at any point.
- Intake, 15–20 minutes: symptom history, what you have already tried, medications and supplements.
- TCM diagnosis: tongue, pulse and palpation of the area that hurts.
- The plan, said out loud — how many visits, and what would tell us this is the wrong tool.
- Treatment, 30–60 minutes, with needles retained for 20–30 minutes.

NCCIH — Acupuncture: Effectiveness and Safety
Acupuncture has been in use for at least 2,500 years and, per WHO data, is practiced in 103 of 129 reporting countries. A pooled analysis of 20 studies (6,376 participants) found the benefit persisted for a year after treatment ended for every pain condition studied except neck pain.
NCCIH — Traditional Chinese Medicine: What You Need To Know
Studies suggest acupuncture stimulates the release of the body's natural painkillers and affects brain areas involved in processing pain; results suggest it may help chronic low-back pain, neck pain, knee osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome.
NCCIH — American College of Physicians low-back pain guideline
The American College of Physicians clinical practice guideline includes acupuncture as an option for initial treatment of chronic low-back pain (moderate-quality evidence) and for acute or subacute low-back pain (low-quality evidence).
